Searching across Research4Life collections via Summon or Google Scholar

 Just a reminder of the possibility to search across the Research4Life (R4L) collections. You can either use the discovery tool Summon (which is supplied by R4L) or use Google Scholar.

In the online course on R4L you can find many ppt-guides. One of them addresses the possibility to search across the collections, Search across Research4Life collections using Summon.

Access to content via Research4Life

Many times we have brought up the importance of using Research4Life to access resources which are behind paywalls. In May 2024 we looked especially at databases and collections within the subject field of Medicine available in Research4Life .

In October 2024 we were planning to have a follow up workshop about access to PubMed content. Unfortunately the workshop had to be cancelled due to the events after the elections in Mozambique.

The workshop presentation (Access to articles) includes some facts and figures showing how many more articles you will access if you search PubMed via Research4Life. It also includes some exercises exemplifying how the way to access the resources will decide the number of articles available for you at UEM and in Mozambique.

The intended participants of the workshop were the librarians at the Central library of UEM who work with e-resources. The presentation, or parts of it, could also be helpful when the UEM librarians reach out to their users.

Resources for PhD students at the Faculty of Medicine : which they are and how to use them

In May 2024 the library at UEM was asked if they could train the PhD students of the Faculty of Medicine. We prepared this training with a workshop for the UEM librarians in Zoom.

During the workshop we used a powerpoint presentation, "Resources for the PhD students at the Faculty of Medicine : Which they are and how to use them"

Webinar on Open Access publishing

 

Research4Life organizes a free webinar on Open Access publishing on Thursday July 15th at 2 PM (CET).

Publishing OA often involves publication fees, Article Processing (or Publishing) Charges (APC). Many publishers offer APC waivers that researchers from lower and middle-income countries can benefit from. 
However, it can be difficult to find the waiver policies and to understand how to use them. In this webinar you will learn more about APC waiver policies, so you can give your researchers better guidance.

The webinar is free, but you need to register.

These Powerpoint presentations can be used by librarians in Research4Life training activities with library users.

Interesting possibility to learn more about Research4Life.

"Research4Life is [...] launching a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) that will equip existing and future users of the Research4Life programs (Hinari, AGORA, OARE, ARDI and GOALI) with the knowledge and skills required to access and use the information efficiently. The call for applications to attend the MOOC is now open, and the course will take place between 11 November to 15 December 2019."

"Participants are expected to spend on average six to eight hours per week on lessons and activities, such as contributing to discussion forums and webinars."

Research4Life commitment until 2025

The Research4Life partners have announced that they have agreed to extend their partnership through 2025. Research4Life currently provides over 8,700 institutions in more than 100 developing countries with free or low cost access to peer-reviewed eResources from the world’s leading scholarly publishers. The renewed commitment will ensure that the nearly 85,000 peer reviewed academic journals, books and databases from some 200 scholarly publishers available through the public-private Research4life partnership will continue to reach research communities in low- and middle-income countries.

Workshop : Information literacy, UEM library June 5th-7th

Research4Life, improved access and content

We have found some interesting news about the improved Research4Life. Please share with your colleagues and users.

From the beginning of this year, all institutions registered for any of the Research4Life programmes  (Hinari, AGORA, OARE and ARDI) get access to all portals with their credentials. New registered institutions no longer receive programme specific credentials but a general Research4Life access.
This means that any Research4Life user can now access up to 81,000 resources of Research4Life from all four programmes! On the 6th of March, the GOALI (Global Online Access to Legal Information) will be launched as the fifth Research4Life programme. All institutions registered with the partnership will have access to information on academic legal journals, publications and databases. GOALI is hosted by the International Labour Organization (ILO). More information about the launch can be found here.
